I know speaking as a rank novice, that this class has helped me grow in a myriad of ways. I would have never considered playing with others a year ago. I have learned some basic concepts in here that carry over to other genres of music. (circle of 5ths, major scale formula, use of the capo, to name a few) These three concepts were very valuable to know, especially when playing with others. I was surprised when i asked some guitar players "why the capo"? And they couldn't give me a technical reason, other than "the song was written that way" or "it just sounds good". While those 2 answers may be correct, i would have preferred "because i have to match the key of my vocalist, who prefers me to be sharp a whole step"...now that is what i call a technical answer. I guess what i'm getting at is Dave gives a reason for something, he is a technical player. It not a "just sounds good" mentality for the most part.
