TOPIC: What made the Banjo your chosen instrument?

Re:What made the Banjo your chosen instrument? 14 years 2 months ago #2549

She WAS well loved....After battling breast cancer through aggressive treatments including a double mastectomy and radiation therapy, she became a spokeswoman for the medical center in Nashville where she had been treated. She took on this role as herself, Sarah Ophelia Cannon, not desiring her Minnie Pearl character to be associated with such misfortune, although a nonprofit group, the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, was founded in her memory to help fund cancer research. The center where she was treated was later named the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, and has been expanded to several other hospitals in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. .

I always loved the sound and the speed of the banjo. Hee Haw was great also.

OLE RATTLER was a good old Grandpa Jones tune. My dad liked to do a little coon hunting and he would get a kick out of this song.

My Dad had a Fox Hound named Rattler. He loved that dog, and he could run with the best.

I did not know this part of the story. Minnie Pearl was so much fun to watch. When I grew up I just kind of drifted away from Bluegrass, and the country. I went a slightly different direction for a while.......

For me it's the other way around....I knew nothing of Bluegrass growing up....Zydeco and Country Music yes but not Bluegrass. This is a fun time for me, learning all this new stuff. I didn't even know what a Dobro was...Like I've said before, it's never too late to learn and appreciate "new things"! :P However it does make it tough when I don't know the melody to songs that the class seems to be familiar with  .
