TOPIC: What made the Banjo your chosen instrument?

I remember Grandpa Jones. He was a regular on the Jimmy Dean variety show on ABC during the 60s. In fact, I was a 19-year-old page on that show and got to meet him, Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets and Edith Head who did costuming for the show. I got interested in the banjo during the folk era of the 60s...Limeliters, Kingston Trio. Thought the instrument added such a great sound to their music!!!

It is awesome how much the banjo is throughout history.

English early rock'n' roller Joe Brown was a great hero for London"s Eastenders. He moved to bluegrass music in the seventies and I heard him talk about banjos. Up until then I had seen them as a quaint old fashioned kind of thing.I gave bluegrass music a listen and was surprised to hear many tunes from my Scots-Irish background coming back over the Atlantic with a strong American accent. I guess I do not have to explain here why I fell in love with the music and that I saw the banjo as the beating heart of bluegrass. I only wish my talent matched my enthusiasm for the instrument.

I too am scots-irish, and love the music. The many sounds, and the endless capabilities of the Banjo.
