TOPIC: Beatles song Day-tripper Riff

Beatles song Day-tripper Riff 6 years 3 months ago #9396

During the last blues class we practiced the main riff of the Beatles song Day-tripper which was introduced to us during the previous class. We played the riff together in the key of E one note at a time, repeating it until all of us were comfortable with adding the next note in the riff. This was repeated over and over, adding subsequent notes until we were playing the entire riff together.

As Paul wrote in last week's Fret Mentor Blues Music Forum, the riff uses a combination of major and minor pentatonic scales. The notes are played in sequence as follows: 1 - 3b - 3 - 5 - 8 - 7b - 5 - 2(octave) - 5 - 7b - 8 with E being the 1-note. We did not practice the chords for Day-tripper this week and will need further instruction for same. Continue to practice the riff in E and in A (the 4 in the key of E). Remember to practice at a tempo that you are comfortable with so to clearly play the riff and don't play too fast.
