TOPIC: Variations on riff timing

Variations on riff timing 7 years 9 months ago #8691

Continuing with some of the discussion in Tony R's last post, we have been working on a riff that can be played in 2 different ways to get a different effect using the same progression of notes.
The first way is to play the notes over one measure. To fit them in single measure, the notes (1....4-5 slide......7b ...8...4...3b...1 ) need to be eighth-notes, except for the root notes which are quarter notes. When counting one-and-two-and-three-and -four-and, the 4-5 slide happens on the two-AND. The rest are eighth notes, and you end up back at the root on the "one" count.
The second way is similar, except instead of eights and quarter notes, we use quarter and half notes. This doubles the duration, extending the same progression of notes over two measures instead of one.

Assignment is to continue working these 2 versions of this riff and also keep practicing riff #4 in the blues materials.
