TOPIC: Riffs & Song of the Week

Riffs & Song of the Week 7 years 10 months ago #8644

We discussed the importance of timing again and practiced the riff previously practiced as described in Paul's last class summary post. Everyone should continue practicing this and own it!

We also listened to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King's version of this riff in Matchbox Blues that uses the same notes but with a different timing that draws the notes over two full measures (actually this version is played in the key of G# while we played it in the key of G). This video can be viewed and listened to at home to hear the difference in the timing of the riff (Paul, please jump in and add any narrative that may help illustrate this).

We then practiced playing this riff in the key of G followed by practicing using both timing structures switching from one to the other and back again essentially combining the two distinct riffs.

We are to start practicing Riff #4 provided with the class material and will play this in class next week. We will begin to build on combining different riffs and inserting them into songs for cool and impressive effects!

"Sweet Home Chicago" is the chosen song of the week; practice both the back up and lead for this song which we will also play during the next class.

It was emphasized that we should be practicing the riffs and songs along with the Drum & Base and Guitar Tracks also provided with the class material.

Hope to see you in class next week Buck!
