Blues Class March 23, 2016 Summary

1. Discussed and played Riff #1 and Riff #2 in 12 bar blues (sort of ;) ). Told to practice them and own them resulting in being able to string them together.

2. The question was asked: Why is there an A# in Riff #2? The answer is because Riff #2 is a hybrid Minor and Major Pentatonic Scale. :woohoo: Flatted 3rd to 3rd to Root to Flatted 5.

3. Discussed Major Scale having 7 notes. :)

4. Discussed Major Pentatonic Scale (meaning having 5 notes). Major Pentatonic Scale equals the Major Scale without a iv or a vii note (4 or 7 note). :cheer:

5. Discussed Minor Pentatonic Scale. Minor Pentatonic Scale equals the Minor Scale without the ii or vi note (2 or 6 note).

6. Discussed building riffs. Always understand your riffs numerically. Ask: Is it Major, Minor, or Hybrid? Is it Open of Closed? Is it Moveable? B)
