Turnarounds can be used to progress from the 1 to the 5 near the end of a blues shuffle. This provides a great-sounding way to transition from the end of a 12-bar progression (or 8-bar) to the start of the next progression. Many turnarounds are moveable, so you can simply move the same pattern of turnaround notes up the neck to get the same effect in different keys.
