Blues class 9/23 8 years 7 months ago #8383

First class of the term---we reviewed some basics

-- Blues uses the 1-4-5 of the musical scale
-- 12 bar blues progression is 1-1-1-1-4-4-1-1-5-4-1-5
-- Use the inlays on your instrument to find basic notes quickly. On the guitar, the first 3 inlays give you (on the 6th string) the notes G, A, B. On the 5th string, those same inlays give you C, D, and E. Of course, the sharps and flats are in-between.
-- Guitar is tuned to 4ths and 5ths. To find the 4th of any note, move up one string (at the same fret). To find the 5 of any note move down one string. Banjo is tuned to key of G.
-- Use the drum & bass tracks in the blues materials to practice basic improvised leads. Assignment is to practice (in all keys A,B,C,D,E,F,G) a basic improv using root notes. Practice using whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eights and swing-eights (triplets).
