TOPIC: Last weeks class

Since that class, I've been closing my eyes more and more during practice (or just picking a spot on the wall and staring at it). it really does seem to work by forcing you to listen more to what you are playing - but also to be less dependent on watching your fretting hand while you play.

We don't make soothing enough sounds for me to actually fall asleep during an exercise like that. Well sometimes, maybe..............

Since FM's little exercise, I have been trying to practice more and more with my eyes closes - or looking anywhere but at my fretting hand. It's a little frustrating but after two weeks I am starting to feel a little less dependant on my eyes and starting to "feel" my way around the fretboard. I'm also starting to hear when I've made a clean chord and when I haven't and starting to realize when I'm I'm not in the middle of the fret.

FM may be onto something.

Since i'm a gun nut----i watch one of my gun shows i record from the Outdoor Channel while i practice...though the whole divided attention thing may not be very productive to good practice.

The "closing of the eyes".....works for the fiddle, too.

The "closing of the eyes" has it's own hidden pitfalls. Class before last I forgot if I was supposed to be playing or sleeping. My body decided to try a little of both simultaneously. It's interesting that one can keep strumming while the left hand falls off the strings.
