TOPIC: 12 bar blues ?

12 bar blues ? 13 years 3 months ago #4778

I have some questions about how we played the 12 bar blues during class, just playing 2 separated strings. I fingered a G on the low E as well as on the D string (guitar), then a C on the A and G strings, then a D on the A and G strings. We played 4 measures of G, then 2 of C, 2 more G, 1 of D, 1 of C, then 2 more of G.

Dave seemed to also play a bass run- and I could not figure out what he was doing then, and I can't now. Can tell me what he was playing?

Thanks, Mike

Villageac, I can't help you but I can tell you that FM never plays the same run twice....so just play with your guitar and try to get something that sounds good....(boy! am I going to be in trouble... I'll probably get sent to the "cold room"!)

Tigerpaws is right...just play your guitar till you hear something good. Just remember to stay in tune/time with 1st, 4th, or 5th chord positions. If it is is sounding good more than likely you're following a (pentatonic) scale, or some variation of one.

It looks like I missed a real good session, last week, I would have loved to learn how to play the 12 bar blues. But from what I have noticed when fretmentor plays it, I cannot get to stretch my fingers that far apart.

Buck -

12 Bar Blues represents the 12 measures of a I, IV, V progression as follows:

I - 4 measures

IV - 2 measures

I - 2 measures

V - 1 measure

IV - 1 measure

I - 1 measure

V - 1 measure

There are slight variations to 12 bar blues. In addition, there is a separate 8 bar blues progression.
