TOPIC: baring the C chord

When moving up the neck from a C chord to a D chord do have to be concerned about the 1st string being bard or can I just play the 2,3,and 4th strings Usually the first string is muted for me

I just play the top 3 strings....(G D A)

You can play either the top three string (4th, 3rd and 2nd) or the bottom three strings (3rd, 2nd and 1st) or all four strings. Each alternative provides something different and makes up the moveable shape.
