TOPIC: Metronome Setting

Metronome Setting 10 years 6 months ago #7385

I purchased a Korg Solo Metronome MA-1. It has three settings beat, tempo and rhythm. I think I have beat and rhythm figured out.

I haven't a clue as to what tempo should be set to. It is a number between 30-252. Any help will be appreciated.

You will vary the tempo based on your abilities and practice sessions.

I suggest you start at one of the slowest settings and work your way up.

Standard tunes can be as high as 120 to 180 beats per minute. However, the metronome is to be used for you to practice on. It is something everyone should use.

Welcome, gardens_guitar! :) Great to have you here on the forum!

I have had a somewhat tumultuous relationship with my metronome over the past few years. It can be easy to want to go against the tempo that it's giving you, especially when you're just starting on a new tune or you've practiced it faster of slower than that. Mostly it's just the fact that I'm not much of a go with the flow kind of person.

But it's a fantastic tool to use and is perfect for when you're reading new tabs, and can really help with rythms and such. Just have fun with it. Experiment with different tempos, for instance take a fast tune start it slow and then bring it back up (a great way to work on a new lead, too.)

Welcome again, gardens! Hope to see you in class soon. :)

Tempo is basically the speed of a song. For practicing chord progressions, set it for a speed that allows for accurate fretting of your chords as you change them. Typically, you start real slow, and work your way faster as you get more proficient.
