TOPIC: Playing scales-- the payoff is there

Re:Playing scales-- the payoff is there 17 years 1 week ago #2051

Hi So I'm not the only one struggling with "The STrum"? Why is something that appears to be so simple so difficult? For me, anyway.	edbird Offline Platinum Boarder Posts: 346 Thank you received: 1 Karma: 2

I'm lurking around in your guitar forum...You have motivated me to practice scales on the fiddle...I'm going to make it a part of every session.	mompodell Offline Gold Boarder Posts: 293 Karma: 3

Hey Ed, what is "the strum"? Doesn't sound good, i want to avoid it.	Dave2311 Offline Platinum Boarder Posts: 506 Karma: 4

Just quoting "Deafstrum"s post. Amazed to find that simple strumming is so hard to do well so it sounds good.	edbird Offline Platinum Boarder Posts: 346 Thank you received: 1 Karma: 2

Bluegrass strumming actually is easier than most other styles with it's bass/down/bass/down for a typical quarter note 4/4 tune. I was looking at an Eagle's tune, "Take it Easy", it uses a down/down/up/down-up/down/up for each measure. It felt odd, but that's apparently how Glenn Frye strummed it. If you recall that tune had a very fast acoustic intro.
Strum patterns i believe are largely dependent on the tempo of the tune. Try 1/8th and 16th note strumming!
