TOPIC: Guitar Materials

Re:Guitar Materials 14 years 10 months ago #1241

Yeah, the D1 Jeff has on hold for me at First Quality has a solid sapele back and sides. (It's gotta be better than the linden wood laminate i'm playing now) In fact, i think that the only difference between the D1 and the less expensive DX,is solid wood vs. HPL. I think the DX is around $500, the D1 was $899. Both use a solid Sitka top. I played a DX, and the tone was fat, especially on the bass notes. I guess if i had a better ear, i may hear the intonation differently in the solid vs. HPL. I think the solid top is key to getting the sound to project from the bridge, which is what separates cheap guitars from higher quality instruments.
