TOPIC: How do the rolls fit in?

How do the rolls fit in? 15 years 2 months ago #507

I've been practicing rolls but while looking at the TABs I have trouble seeing how thay fit in to the melody of the song. Any suggestions?

Have you tried playing along with Dave's tape? That's what I do with my guitar "rolls"..

Screendude.........suggestion on fitting in a roll....find the melody notes in each measure and the choice of rolls that most closely follows the melody line.........for example, if the melody is "going up" use a simple 5-2-1 or 5-3-1 forward roll.......if the melody is moving up then down, try a forward-backward (aka "reverse") roll........basically you're selecting a style of roll based on the "pitch direction" of the melody, and the specific roll (ie 5-2-1 or 5-3-1) based on which string the melody note falls on.
At least this is how I try to do it.
