TOPIC: Bluegrass class as therapy.

Re:Bluegrass class as therapy. 13 years 11 months ago #3249

Enough of this "group therapy" talk! I think that all who continue to come to class session after session enjoy themselves (and others)and also learn something.

There are two major downsides to the "group therapy" aspect of the class. Number one, can you imagine the Fretmentor with a small goatee beard, speaking in broken German and guoting Freud? I think that would send me over the edge.

Number two, you probably can't get a therapy session for the small amount that we pay for class. Don't give the Fretmentor any ideas or he'll start wearing a white coat and have us playing on the couch.

Group therapy typically includes sitting in a circle and going around the room sharing whatever issue is the topic of that particular group. In many cases groups are free, and are tightly knit support groups. Look at AA for instance. During circle time we do go around the room and share, and we do work on problem areas. No couch involved, and no little white coats.

Funny but I missed last week's class and it feels like it's been years - your comments about therapy are correct - I've had a relapse and a possible fugue...
