TOPIC: Rock & Blue Class #2

Rock & Blue Class #2 1 week 6 days ago #9714

Hello Everyone

In week #2, I provided a summary of the major, minor and pentatonic scales.

I then instructed everyone on the use of the Power Chord in rock and blues.

We learned to shuffle using the power chord.

I started to explain the matchbox shuffle for the song matchbox blues in the Key or A.

Questions

What is a Power Chord?

What is the similarities and the differences between the major and minor scales?

How do you derive the pentatonic scales from their respective major or minor scales?

When shuffling with a power chord, what notes are you playing numerically. What do we mean by a I, IV, V progression and how does it relate to the power chords as well as 12 bar blues.

Assignment
The class should continue playing shuffles, including the matchbox shuffle. Listen to the Beatles and Carl Perkins version of the tune on YOUTUBE.

The Stevie Ray Vaughn/Albert King version is also excellent.

I agree. It is a bit different but worth watching.
