Adult Guitar Class #1 2 weeks 6 days ago #9692

So you now are settled in and have had your first class. Let's review what we covered besides the time we spent tuning the instruments.

We discussed the musical alphabet and using the fingerboard. You should complete the fingerboard chart by using the alphabet in the Basic Theory folder. If you are confused how to do this, print the fingerboard chart and I will have you start to fill it out in class.

What is a spider? You will find a warm up exercise instructional CD. The exercise is to put all for fingers a fret at a time in order. Start with the index and play to the pinky finger. Try to stretch your hand and see if you can get all fingers on one string and four frets at a time.

Basic Strumming - Prior to the next class, strum the guitar in even strokes using your forearm and not your wrist. If while doing this, you place your ring finger on the 3rd fret of the 1st string, you will be playing a partial G chord. If you place your finger on the first fret of the second string, you will be strumming a C chord.

I also demonstrated how to tune the guitar.

Any questions?

Dear FM or David,

So, you just want us to copy the notes from the filled out fingerboard to the blank one, not memorizing it all? However, I do see the patterns. There are no E# and B#, is that because those keys don't appear on a piano or they don't appear on the piano for some other mathematical tonal reason? I know you will answer all this Monday.

Learning to play without looking is not easy! Before the class I was able to slowly play the first stanza of Hey Jude, but without looking it's not so easy. However, over time I'm sure it becomes second nature I hope. I WILL get through this and I'm sure we all will.

Thanks!

Dennis

First, the blank fingerboard should be filled out using the musical alphabet as a reference. You should not simply transfer the answers. The fingerboard with the answers is to be used to verify if you did it correctly.

There is no B#/Cb or E3/Fb in music. B goes directly to C and E goes directly to F.

Thank you for your questions.
