TOPIC: Banjo set up

Banjo set up 14 years 10 months ago #1148

Anyone know where you can have a banjo professionally set up locally (Palm Beaches)? How about getting railroad spikes installed?

Unfortunately, there are no sources that I can recommend to do this work. Most local stores will not even know what a spike is used for on a banjo and while I inquired with a local luthier, they do not perform the work. Most deal with guitar. Gold Tone will install spikes but you need to take a trip to the Titusville where they are located.

I have also not been able to find anyone to help with setup. Through necessity, though many of us have tried to learn about setup ourselves. I have a copy of Steve Huber's Killer Tone setup DVD and the information in it is excellent. I also just bought the Nechville setup book/pamphlet which has lots of interesting insights. The Stelling site also has good information that is available free. I am sure that if you have specific questions someone probably can help you. Not a substitute for a good setup person but they are few and far between.
