TOPIC: Vivaldi on the mandolin!!!

Vivaldi on the mandolin!!! 13 years 5 months ago #4374

Earlier today I found out a rather interesting fact. Vivaldi wrote a number of songs for the mandolin, even some for an entire mandolin orchestra:woohoo: ! Since the violin is a lot like a mandolin, I used to play songs that Vivaldi had originally written for the violin on the mandolin. If only I'd known!:)

I believe that Vivaldi wrote many of the mandolin music for the female music ensemble of the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage for poor and illegitimate children where Vivaldi worked between 1703 and 1740. It is said that the school musicians were very talented amateurs, for what it's worth.

What kind of fiddle music did this Vivaldi guy write? Was it strictly Bluegrass or was it Texas Swing?

Vivaldi was a classical composer during the 17th and 18th century. I don't think that Bluegrass or Texas Swing were very popular in Venice at that point in time.
