Dust in the wind is a great finger style tune also Dear Prudence and Every Breath You Take. I started without picks - then went to picks because it seems like you can build up more speed with picks, but they take some getting use to.
Your post has re-inspired me to bone up on my fingerpicking. I realized that I had let these song grow a little dust on them. I've got to figure out how to break up my practice to learn new stuff while still keeping up with a growing number of old songs and exercises.
Fingerstyle playing has always been rather daunting to me. But I guess I really have not spent a lot of time on it either. FM taught me some fingerstyle techniques a couple of months ago, but then it sort of dropped off the radar screen because of new songs in the mix and being filmed and whatnot. I think I would like to add it back into the rpertoire as well. Very slowly at first of course.
Fingerpicking is also on my list of to-do's, but not very high right now. I find myself jumping onto something, getting maybe 30% proficient at it, then jump onto something else. Thus not getting really good at any one thing. Fingerpicking kindof falls into that category. Good for experimenting, though.
