Am a great fan of the Seldom Scene - & love their style of 'Newgrass'
In fact, when John Duffy - mandolin player died - in 1992 - I first started listening to their music - all of it!

We have a great group in Nova Scotia - called Grassfire Band - who have a similar style to Seldom Scene. Their mandolin payer is Dale Wood - who reminds me of John Duffy.
Sadly they no longer play - but they were fun when they were around at all our local venues. Have a listen!

ANother all-time favorite - Josh WHite singing
'WHile the blood runs warm in your veins'
Real blues-y as only he can sing it - & some great guitar work - keeping in mind it was recorded in 1935.

It was rerecorded by Aretha Franklin in 1956 when she was only 14

This was one of the first fingerstyle songs I learned on guitar. But here's a new take by the man himself, flatpicked. It's really wonderful. I think it's drop D tuning. He's just as amazing as ever.

RE - Steve Winwood - singing 'Can't find my way home'
Really great guitar work! - started reading up on 'drop D' tuning - pretty interesting -although I don't fully understand it.

Has anyone tried it? what is the advantage?
I gather that you can play a number of power chords this way - & also you can simply barre to form other chords. You can see him working the bass strings - are those power chords? - but I don't see him forming any barre chords. In fact -if one looks closely at the video - he appears to be forming a basic D chord.

Caught my interest -Anybody out there up on D tuning?
