A SPECIAL SINGALONG! 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 36
For my mom's 90th birthday she wanted her children to go visit and to have another "Sing-Along". Needless to say we did as she wished. This visit was truly fun and unforgettable. Hogpaws and I started the sing-along with Happy Birthday...Hogpaws playing the guitar and I playing the fiddle....and as soon as we finished it we went right into our rendition of Orange Blossom Special...I don't know if it was because of my nerves on high gear or just the fact that my mom wanted to hear me play the fiddle but for once I played it flawlessly....I couldn't believe it....and I was soooooo out of my comfort zone ...(I've been told that the fun is outside the comfort zone...and I think I believe this now) We then proceeded with the "sing-along" and the energy was so high in the room you could almost touch it. When we were finished the "residents" came to thank us and the one compliment we kept getting over and over was that "WE" were having so much fun...they couldn't help but have fun too! I know I've said it before....but it is SO rewarding to do this...We need to spread our little talents more...

Wow!! The big 9-O. Almost to the halfway point. Bless her heart.
You and I need to have a talk. I've been trying to play OBS, but so far all I can do up to speed is the 2nd part and the intro. For some reason the switching from double stop to double stop just seems to kill me. Couple that with the "double shuffle" bowing, and...*famous sigh*. Too much of a "classical stiff" I suppose.
Sounds like you guys had an absouloute ball!! Maybe the class could go and play somewhere. I've played at a lot of nursing homes before. But I do disagree with you in that it is not SO rewarding, it is SO SO SOOO rewarding to do this, both playing for kids, and playing for the kids at heart.
