HOW MY BRAIN WORKS...OR NOT... 1 Year, 5 Months ago

I learned to play the guitar and the mandolin following tablature. The fiddle I have learned through notation ....which actually comes easier to me as I learned how to play the piano when I was a little girl. However since the mandolin and the fiddle are set exactly alike (minus the visible frets) you would think hat I could just go from one to the other...without too much trouble...I should be able to do the mando with notation and the fiddle with tablature....but my brain doesn't want to cooperate ....At last week's class FM asked who was working on Greensleeves...and since I'm working on it with the fiddle...I raised my hand, then I realized that I was holding the mando....it took me over 5 minutes to get the brain to switch from tablature thinking (numbers) to notation thinking....( do re mi) I hate this.....but I'll keep working on it until it comes naturally..... I'm no quitter!!!

Bravo, Tigerpaws!!! I've been playing the fiddle with notation for years, so when I tried the mandolin, using tablature nearly killed me(being overly dramatic, ofcourse).
P.S. I used to think that tabs were hard(and still do)...until I took a look at the alto clef!!!

Godbless...it's nice to know someone understands what I'm saying.....when I tell Hogpaws...he gets this glazed look in his eyes...I know he doesn't have a clue as to what I'm saying...guess it's true that "misery loves company" .
